O2 roaming charges: free in Europe, up to a point.
O2 is the only major UK network that still includes European roaming in its tariffs at no extra charge — but there is a 25GB limit, a 63-day rule, and a list of European countries it doesn't cover. Work out your trip below.

How O2's roaming works
O2 is the outlier among the big four. Rather than charging a daily fee to roam in Europe, it includes European roaming in the tariff, so your normal allowance of calls, texts and data works abroad exactly as it does at home. The limits are on data volume and on how long you stay, not on the days you use your phone.
| Where | What it costs | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Europe Zone (48 destinations) | Included | Your UK allowance, up to a 25GB roaming limit |
| Outside Europe, Volt or Plus plan | Included | Inclusive Zone, 27 destinations |
| Outside Europe, Ultimate plan | Included | Inclusive Zone Ultimate, 75 destinations |
| Outside Europe, other plans | £7 a day | O2 Travel Bolt On, selected destinations |
| Beyond all of the above | Standard rates | Pay as you use |
From O2's own EU roaming and fair-usage pages, checked August 2026.
What are O2's roaming charges in Europe?
There aren't any, on any current tariff. O2 says it is the only major network not to have brought back EU roaming charges, and European roaming is included in the plan rather than sold as a daily pass or bolt-on. Your calls, texts and data come out of your normal monthly allowance, subject to a 25GB roaming limit. Pay as you go SIMs are included too.
What is O2's 25GB roaming limit?
It only applies to larger plans, which catches people out in both directions. If your UK monthly data allowance is more than 25GB, you can use up to 25GB of it in the Europe Zone at no extra cost, and O2 texts you as you approach the limit and again when you reach it. If your allowance is 25GB or less, there is no separate roaming limit at all — you simply use your normal allowance. Either way, once you hit the limit or exhaust your allowance, data stops until you buy a Bolt On.
Which countries are in O2's Europe Zone?
Forty-eight destinations. All the EU member states, plus Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland, along with EU overseas regions like the Canaries, Madeira, the Azores, Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Mayotte and Réunion.
Is Turkey included in O2's Europe Zone?
No. Turkey sits outside the Europe Zone and appears only in the 75-destination Inclusive Zone Ultimate list, so unless you're on an Ultimate plan you'd need the O2 Travel Bolt On at £7 a day, or pay standard rates. Andorra is on none of O2's three lists at all, so it falls to standard rates, and most of the Balkans are outside the Europe Zone too.
Does O2 cover Northern Cyprus?
No. O2's destination list carries an explicit asterisk against Cyprus stating that Northern Cyprus is not included, while the Republic of Cyprus is. Your phone will connect to a Turkish network in the north, so the rate changes as you cross the line in Nicosia. It's the sort of thing worth knowing before a day trip.
Is there an O2 Inclusive Zone 2?
No, and it is worth saying plainly because the naming invites the assumption. O2 publishes three destination lists and no fourth: the Europe Zone, included on every tariff; the O2 Travel Inclusive Zone of 27 destinations, included on Volt and Plus plans; and Inclusive Zone Ultimate of 75 destinations, included on Ultimate plans. There is no numbered series, so there is no Zone 1 and no Zone 2. If you have seen a reference to one, it is either a mix-up with EE or Vodafone, both of which genuinely do number their zones, or with O2's own Europe Zone. Anywhere on none of the three lists is charged at O2's standard rates unless you add the O2 Travel Bolt On at £7 a day.
What are O2's roaming zones?
Three lists, and none of them numbered. The Europe Zone covers 48 destinations and is included on every tariff at no daily charge. The O2 Travel Inclusive Zone covers 27 destinations outside Europe and is included on Volt and Plus plans. Inclusive Zone Ultimate covers 75 and is included on Ultimate plans only. Anywhere on none of the three is charged at standard rates unless you add the O2 Travel Bolt On at £7 a day. All three lists are published in full on this page.
Which countries are in the O2 Travel Inclusive Zone?
Twenty-seven destinations, included at no extra cost on Volt and Plus plans: Argentina, Australia, Botswana, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Greenland, Guatemala, Guinea, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Rwanda, the United States, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yemen. Every one of them also appears in the larger Inclusive Zone Ultimate list, so Ultimate is a superset rather than a different set.
Which countries are in O2's Inclusive Zone Ultimate?
Seventy-five destinations, included on Ultimate plans. It is the only one of O2's three lists that contains Turkey, Japan, China, India, Egypt, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine and the Balkans. On any other O2 plan those are the O2 Travel Bolt On at £7 a day, or standard rates. O2 states 75 destinations and its published list contains exactly 75.
How long can I roam on O2 before it charges extra?
Sixty-three days in any four-month period. Past that, O2 treats it as unfair use, sends a text notification, and applies surcharges to further usage: £3.50 per gigabyte of data, 3.3p a minute for calls and 1p per text, appearing on your next bill. The surcharges stop once the majority of your usage over the previous four months is back in the UK. This is the most generous long-stay allowance of the major networks, but it still rules out spending a winter abroad on a UK SIM.
Does free EU roaming work on a tablet?
No, and this one genuinely surprises people. O2 states that free EU roaming applies only to phone SIMs. A Pay Monthly SIM in a tablet will work in the UK only. If you travel with a tablet on its own data plan, a travel eSIM is usually the simplest answer.
Does this apply if I'm on O2 pay as you go?
Yes, for Europe. O2 confirms that Pay As You Go SIMs include EU roaming, so calls, texts and data work as they do at home within the Europe Zone. Coverage still depends on the specific destination, so check before you travel, and the same 25GB and fair-usage rules apply.
Every country in O2's roaming zones
The full lists as O2 publishes them, so you can check your destination without leaving the page. O2 works differently from the other networks: there is one free zone, and then two lists that are included only if your plan carries them. Everything on none of these lists is charged at standard rates unless you buy the O2 Travel Bolt On.

Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City are all here despite sitting outside the EU, and so is the Republic of Ireland. Northern Cyprus is excluded while the Republic of Cyprus is included, so your rate can change while crossing Nicosia. O2 also lists the United Kingdom itself in this zone, which is why you may see the figure quoted as 49.
European destinations O2 leaves out
O2 names these as European destinations that are not in the Europe Zone, so they can carry roaming charges unless you add the O2 Travel Bolt On: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greenland, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey.
Andorra and the Faroe Islands are on none of O2's three lists at all — not the Europe Zone, not either Inclusive Zone. That means standard rates, which this calculator cannot estimate. Andorra sits between two Europe Zone countries, so it is easy to drive into without noticing.

All three lists are taken from O2's own destination pages, checked August 2026. O2 publishes no fourth zone: there is no second Inclusive Zone.
